Pfizer’s Global Economics Center of Excellence provides timely, data-driven economic advice and original economic analysis to teams across Pfizer including commercial units, finance, business development, strategy, corporate affairs, and other groups. The team is housed jointly within the Patient & Health Impact Centers of Excellence and the Pfizer Treasury organization and reports to the Vice President, Patient and Health Impact CoE. The Senior Director, Global Economics is a member of the PHI CoE Leadership Team and will be accountable for the following activities:

  • Present quarterly updates to the Executive Leadership team and routine updates to other senior level executive teams
  • Manage and co-host quarterly town halls on global economics attended by in excess of 1000 colleagues
  • Develop and maintain global and regional economic forecasts and in-depth country risk reports
  • Author and distribute a biweekly report on general economic activity that is relevant to key Pfizer stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to conduct original economic research in support of Pfizer’s broad business objectives and executing/publishing such research
  • Support the CFO, Treasurer, and other senior finance colleagues on potential responses to the economic environment as it evolves
  • Work closely with the Global Pricing CoE and the Pricing Dynamics team to develop and test new pricing structures using economic tools
  • Present on industry economics to selected external audiences, including investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders

Role responsibilities

  • Conduct original, self-directed, publication-quality quantitative and economic research to generate data-driven economic insights for use across Pfizer, examples may include:
    • Developing insights on key growth markets or opportunities
    • Creating and testing new ideas about the economics of the healthcare industry
  • Gather, interpret, and issue quick-turnaround reports on high-frequency economic data and financial market developments
  • Work with global pricing dynamics team to identify specific opportunities for pricing innovation based on analytic criteria, macroeconomic market factors, forecasted GDP and industry growth potential, and other factors to be determined
  • Perform deep analyses on emerging markets, key currencies, and financial markets; develop and defend a point of view on economic prospects globally
  • Present research to senior leadership including the ELT and the Board of Directors as requested. Present to smaller groups of colleagues in town hall and group formats.
  • Represent Pfizer within the external economics community.
  • Manage a rotating staff of up to three colleagues including a full time intern, a full time secondment, and an MBA six-month rotational colleague


  • Ph.D. in economics preferred; candidate must have at least completed all coursework toward a Ph.D. in Economics.
  • At least five years of work in a corporate or corporate finance setting required; some experience in government or academia helpful but not required. Candidate must be familiar with issuing reports on macroeconomic issues.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare industry preferred; demonstrable interest in becoming an industry expert is required.
  • Outstanding written and spoken English, and an ability to present complex information to non-technical audiences, are required.
